chris_ty is an artist and researcher in the field of
everyday technology. By investigating, hacking, reusing and
personalising existing technological structures, her work raises
questions about the relationship between humans and machines, and
our dependency and agency in an increasingly digital world. Within
a practice that ranges from interactive installations and robotics
to facilitating collective hacking sessions, the invisible
mechanisms and instantiations of power of the devices around us
are made visible. She strives for a practice of care, imagination
and resistance, where technology is not something that happens to
us, but something we shape together.
chris_ty studied Fine Art at the Maastricht Institute of Arts with an IT minor in intelligent systems, after which she completed a master's degree in ArtScience at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague. She is an artist fellow at the Technology, Performance and Society research unit at the University of Music and Theater in Munich, and she has exhibited, among others, at Bureau Europa in Maastricht, LUNA Media Art Friesland, GARDENING in Oud-Amelisweerd, the van Bommel van Dam museum, and the Tschumi pavilion in Groningen.
